Coronavirus support for remote learning and teaching at UWE

In line with government advice UWE Bristol is now delivering learning online. This page forms the UWE Bristol institutional guidance for teaching and assessment during this period.  The pages are updated regularly and link to both internal and external resources.

Use of non-UWE or unsupported tools

While many people will be using free tools like Zoom to talk with family and friends, UWE staff should only use the supported tools. The use of free or trial versions of Zoom or House Party or similar tools will not be GDPR compliant and is not supported by UWE IT Services.

Below are the key sites providing materials to support you as we transition to remote learning and teaching. Whilst these may be faculty specific the materials are relevant for all staff.

Collaborative and teaching tools

UWE has a number of fully supported online teaching and collaborative working tools.

Activity: Virtual teaching delivery (webinars, remote learning etc)

Activity: Chatting with and calling colleagues

Activity: Online meetings (including external participants and 1:1 sessions with students)

Activity: Teams & Channel collaboration

  • Tool: Skype for Business.
  • More help: Intranet guide. Relevant parts are also covered in the Teams webinars.

While many people will be using free tools like Zoom to talk with family and friends, UWE staff should only use the supported tools. Any free version of Zoom will not be GDPR compliant and is not supported by IT Services.

Online staff development

We are working together to provide opportunities to support our staff.

Faculties have arranged local online training which is available to all UWE staff and sessions are also being delivered by UWE’s Learning Development Centre and Academic Practice Directorate. Please visit this document for dates and times of the online training sessions available. There is no need to register for these sessions, simply click the links available in the document. Use Chrome or Firefox browsers (or Safari on a Mac). Do not use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer.
