Learning Innovation Unit
The LIU provides support to FET staff for using technology for teaching and learning. We can help you choose the best tools for your teaching activities, and provide one-to-one guidance on making use of core software for your specific context. We are keen to help staff bring an active learning approach to their teaching, underpinned by accessible and inclusive design.
If your queries are around hardware, installation of software, lecterns and other equipment in teaching rooms, or if you need immediate help during teaching, please contact IT Services. Students should also be signposted to IT Services.
For introductory IT training on core tools for teaching, UWE’s Learning Development Centre runs regular courses.
A Guide for New Teaching Staff
FET’s Learning Innovation Unit has created a resource specifically for teaching staff who are new to the Faculty. Its purpose is to provide an overview of the support that is available from the Learning Innovation Unit, and from elsewhere in the University. It focuses on UWE’s core teaching technologies and the training that is available, but also includes a few administrative tips which commonly come up when we are talking to new staff.
This guide is in addition to any induction or department-based guidance.
Student Administration Teams (SATs)
The Student Administration Teams provide administrative support to their faculties, for example ensuring students are registered on the relevant student systems. Contact FET SAT at firstname.lastname@example.org for any queries with staff or student module enrolments, access to Blackboard, setup of automatic assignment submission points and any issues with transferring marks between Blackboard and ISIS.
Learning and Development Centre
The LDC provides regular introductory IT training courses on core tools for both administrative and teaching purposes. Search their courses for Blackboard, Panopto and other teaching tools, or browse the Digital Skills section.

For technical issues including hardware, software installation, telecommunications and network services, please contact ITS on email@example.com. Students with IT problems should also be signposted here.
If you need to know how to use the lectern equipment at UWE, ITS have produced three short videos. You can access these through MyLearning with the link below.
IT Services should also be your first point of call for problems with Blackboard, Blackboard Collaborate and Panopto, and most other main teaching tools with a few exceptions:
- For problems with Xerte or PebblePad, FET staff should contact firstname.lastname@example.org
- For problems with Dewis, all UWE staff should contact email@example.com
UWE Blackboard support for staff and students is also available on the Intranet.
Academic Practice Directorate
There are various courses available through LinkedIn Learning that are free to UWE staff. These include use of common software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe and other administrative or creative media tools.
Many of our software providers have their own support websites with comprehensive instructions on how to use their products.
