Urban Cuts Across Media

A Catalyst for Social Change, A Symbol of Transparency and A Centre for Democratic Engagement

By embracing exposed elements and promoting media transparency, the building will serve as a testament to the power of protest and activism in shaping a better future. The name “Agonía Stratos” combines two Greek words: “Agonía,” meaning “struggle” or “fight,” and “Stratos,” referring to a collective force or army.

This project aims to explore the facilitation of activism in Athens, Greece. In direct response to the Urban Cuts Across Media brief, the project is divided into various sections, including mapping, physical modelling, filming, digital drawings, and media experimentation with artefacts. By exploring these diverse avenues, the project seeks to shed light on the potential of integrating activism within the city’s architectural fabric.

The Belly of Athens

The installation model is an alternative depiction of Athens’ layered history, mirroring the map. However, it takes on a dynamic and interactive form, allowing viewers to engage with the different historical layers. Through this interactive display, the installation model presents a fresh perspective on the city’s past, providing a captivating and immersive experience that enhances the understanding and appreciation of Athens’ rich historical heritage.

Unfolding the Squares of Athens

The film acts as a bridge connecting the historical essence of Athens with the city’s physical fabric. The focus will be a layer taken from the mapping and installation, the public squares, to generate the brief and the project’s narrative. The film focuses on macro to aerial perspectives, highlighting the diverse elements within and around the public squares. The film comprehensively explores these important spaces, immersing viewers in each square’s unique ambience and significance.
