Illustrated Walking Tour of Bristol

Bristol has a history with slave trade, which we will never be able to forget. The city has now built a voice and a community to fight how we build and develop the city.

Students from @UWE and @uwearchsociety have created an illustrated walking tour of Bristol, showing how different cultures have influenced the city today. It is an invitation to look at city landmarks in a positive way and explore during this tough time.

“Bristol is a hugely creative and cultural city, with a strong voice within the Black Lives Matter movement. It is known for its history of Slave Trade, but as a city is trying to move forward through change – The Beacon, the fall of Colston. As a Bristolian and Architecture student I wanted to highlight how Slave Trade isn’t the only history we have, that many cultures have been a key part in designing a creative Bristol. Our future Architects have an important role in designing a more inclusive city asked my fellow students to design key cultural places around Bristol, highlighting the positive influence of community and culture on how we build.

Working with RIBA Bristol and Bath we created an Illustrated Walking Tour of Bristol, as an invitation to look at the city landmarks in a positive way and explore during this tough time.”
