Expressions of Hope:
The Artistic Chronicle
Project by Ceren Özdemir
Urban Cuts Across Media

The envisioned space serves as a platform for individuals to freely express their thoughts and feelings, utilizing their talents and interests across various artistic mediums. This non-profit establishment welcomes art, words, acting, and other forms of creative expression, providing a safe haven for the open discussion, criticism, and generation of solutions regarding problems and events in Greece or the world. It is primarily established and run by artistic activists, with the users encompassing both activist artists and the general public.
At the core of this space are four distinct zones designed to facilitate different forms of creative expression. The first zone consists of a billboard with rotating panels, serving as a dynamic platform for sharing artistic works, ideas, and messages. The main building, divided into three parts, provides diverse spaces for artistic exploration.
The literature section houses a library supported by donations, an exhibition corridor, a working space, and a periodically changing exhibition room designed by different artists. The performance space, which can be adapted to different orientations, serves as a versatile area for rehearsals, media-related activities, and performances. The art space, on the other hand, is dedicated to workshops, studios, and exhibition areas, enabling artists to collaborate, create, and showcase their works to the public.

The Storyboard demonstrates the footage of the Film. The aim of the video, is to document the current situation of the “Holy Way” with the industrial changes that the region has experienced over time, simultaneously establishing how the public responds or reacts to street art and graffiti.

The video will start from Gazi-Keramikos, the starting point of the procession, and continue until the train tracks at the end of Gazi. It will be displayed in order: Street – Building (Structure) – Graffiti.
The video utilizes central camera focus to highlight the DOF- Depth of Field in the shots of Athens. This idea of a key the point of focus is emphasised with this Point of view cinematography.
I aim to create central focus shots of streets, which lead to central focus shots of the graffiti almost guiding the viewers eyes using pov angles and flickering effects.

The building incorporating fibre cement wall panels to create an outdoor gallery presents a unique architectural approach. The utilisation of removable panels for maintenance purposes allows for the continuous evolution of artistic expression, reminiscent of the transient nature of graffiti and street art. This dynamic aspect fosters an environment of artistic collaboration and constant change, as artists are expected to paint over each other’s work. Furthermore, the design embraces a ventilated facade system, promoting energy efficiency while symbolically conveying the notion of transparency. By providing a protective barrier against weather conditions, the facade serves to safeguard the integrity of the building. Notably, the building’s structural concept, with its implied parallel to the responsibilities of a just government, emphasises the contrasting reality of Greece’s shortcomings in fulfilling its obligations towards its people. Through its innovative facade, the building invites contemplation on the role of art, architectural design, and governance in shaping societies and facilitating meaningful interactions between individuals and their built environment.
